Dishwasher baskets need to withstand heat, water, and detergent exposure while holding dishes securely through repeated wash cycles. For a custom or OEM project, the design must balance open grid geometry, drainage, and structural rigidity, and the part must then be molded consistently.

Project Background
A home appliance customer approached us with a custom dishwasher basket to be produced for a product launch. They supplied a physical sample rather than technical drawings.
The basket needed to be durable and chemical-resistant, and to hold dishes through repeated wash cycles. Material selection, grid design, and mold configuration were confirmed during engineering review before production began.
From Sample to CAD: 3D Scanning and DFM
Because the customer supplied a physical sample without drawings, we started with reverse engineering.
- 3D scanning captured the part geometry and converted it into a CAD model.
- Our engineering team reviewed the design for manufacturability.
- Grid structure, draft angles, rib placement, and gate location were checked before tooling.
For precision features, tolerances can be as tight as ±0.05 mm where design and material allow. Final tolerances are subject to tooling review.
During DFM, our design and engineering team returns practical feedback that can be applied before steel is cut, which helps avoid tooling revisions later. If the design is still at an early stage, we can discuss 3D printing for prototyping before committing to tooling.
Mold Manufacturing
Once the design was confirmed, the injection mold was built in our facility.
Mold steel options include P20, 718H, H13, S136, and NAK80, selected according to part geometry, production volume, and expected mold life. Our mold manufacturing covers CNC machining, EDM, and polishing to produce the core and cavity details the basket requires.
Injection Molding Production and Finishing
After mold approval, the baskets were produced on our injection molding machines. Processing parameters were set for the selected material, and finishing steps were applied as the product requires.
Surface finishing (texture, polishing, printing), assembly, and packaging can be provided as part of the manufacturing scope.
